Daily Supplications (Duas)

A dua is a personal prayer or supplication to Allah. Unlike salah which has a fixed structure, dua can be made at any time, in any language. However, the Prophet ﷺ taught us specific duas for different occasions. These are the most authentic ones for daily life.

When Waking Up

Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.

All praise is due to Allah, Who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

Hadith: Sahih Bukhari 6312

Before Sleeping

Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya.

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

Hadith: Sahih Bukhari 6324

Before and After Eating

Before eating

All praise is due to Allah Who fed me this and provided it for me without any might or power from me.

Hadith: Sunan Abu Dawud 4023

When Leaving the Home

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might or power except with Allah.

Hadith: Sunan Abu Dawud 5095

When Entering the Mosque

Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik.

O Allah, open the doors of Your mercy for me.

Hadith: Sahih Muslim 713

General Supplications

Seeking forgiveness

Astaghfirullah

I seek forgiveness from Allah

Say this frequently throughout the day. The Prophet ﷺ used to seek forgiveness more than 70 times a day.

Hadith: Sahih Bukhari 6307

When in distress or difficulty

La ilaha illa Anta Subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.

There is no god but You, glory be to You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.

This is the dua of Prophet Yunus (Jonah) when he was in the belly of the whale.
